Principal’s Welcome

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Rushworth P-12 College website. I hope that you gain a sense of our many strengths and are impressed by the diversity of experiences that are offered.

Our ongoing involvement in the University of Melbourne Network of Schools program is providing us with the appropriate learning experiences to build practice excellence. A literacy coach is offering ongoing support to our teachers where we are currently focussing on building a strong early years program. The impact on our students is immediately evident on entering the room as the learning is visible and audible. We are committed to the development of a strong coaching culture within the college so we all remain active and reflective learners.

We have ensured that we have structures in place that take advantage of our size. Literacy and Numeracy class sizes range from 12 to 17 providing our teachers with real opportunities to adopt evidence based strategies with confidence. Every student is known by every staff member, giving us a strong sense of community and enhancing the feelings of connectedness.

Each student is in an Advisory group which meets every day. These groups have around seven students in them and the advisory teacher is the first point of call if there are any queries in relation to your child.

Our college is a leader in the adoption of Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports. We aim to create respectful, responsible and resilient learners and citizens by providing social and emotional learning opportunities at the individual’s point of need. We use a common language and have shared expectations so that we are consistent in the delivery of this learning.

We are an original and continuing participant in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program with the children in our 4-6 classrooms participating eagerly in the growing, cooking and eating of the produce. The produce is also sold at our mini-markets which are regular events that the community is invited to attend. Our Year 9 and 10 students run these events with great success. I personally recommend the home-made pizzas – delicious.

Our students participate in a wide variety of sporting events throughout the year and our staff are active in supporting their endeavours. Some students participate to enjoy the experience with their friends while others are actively seeking to participate at the highest level possible to test their skills against other like-minded students from across the state and nation.

We provide an environment that allows every student to excel and strongly encourage you to arrange an appointment to visit so you can experience the uniqueness of our beautiful college where we are constantly in Pursuit of Excellence.
